How much money can one make grape farming?

Ever so many vinyards have been established and then ripped out a few years later. Competition to sell wines and grapes is intense and every few years it goes crazy as some new large vinyard comes into production.
You need to carefully consider what soil, water supply and sun exposure you will have, and know the culture very well or forget doing it on a whim.
