The development of agricultural techniques made all the difference for our human ancestors. It meant that they no longer had to migrate in search of food sources, thus exposing themselves to hostile new environments. By growing their own food, they were able to stay in the same place. Migrating was dangerous and expensive in terms of physical wear and tear. Also, migrating exposed them to predators and food-searching competitors. Once they learned to grow their own food, more time and resources were dedicated to care for their offspring. This was probably the biggest advantage over other species. Anthropologists today point out that it was at that point in the chronology of our species that humans really started populating the planet and became the indisputable ruler of the planet
