Why do people believe that women were the one that invented agriculture?

Gun fanatic asked:

I often heard that women were the one that invented agriculture since they were the gatherer. But are there any factual evident that proves that women were the one that invented agriculture? And correct me if I'm wrong but don't agriculture evolved independantly in multiple places?
But are there any real evident to this?

They went for water most of the time near any rivers learned of many different animals that existed and what they ate to survive and things that grew and they went from there after all when their husbands were out hunting during sparse times they still had to figure a way to feed the family.
Even if it meant boiling roots and finding potatoes and the like.
They watched the animals survive and they copied the ways of nature.

traditionally men were hunters and defenders..which caused people to be more nomadic….
women raised the children and gathered…. agriculture allowed them a stabled, rooted environment….

Edit… all of this is conjecture.. there was no one to write it down…
However, in the last stoneage cultures that were observed and documented.. this was the pattern.. try googleing stone-age culture…

Do they? I’ve sat through (and given) numerous lectures and seminars on ancient civilisations, and though my expertise is a little later than the development of agriculture, i’ve still never heard that argument.
